Kerala: Fees, quota on self-financing meet agenda
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Self-Financing Engineering College Management Association (KSFECMA) will meet on Sunday to discuss the agreement with the government on the fee and quota for BTech courses. The outcome of the meeting will be conveyed to the government on Monday.
Sources said that the consensus was to cooperate with the allotment process for government quota seats as the first allotment is scheduled for June 30. If any differences of opinion persisted, it would be sorted out later. However, there were differences of opinion over the fee structure between various managements.
While around 49 college managements were for single-tier fee structure for government quota seats, around 50 managements wanted a multi-tier structure. Of the 139 self-financing colleges in the state, 119 are members of the KSFECMA while the other 20 colleges are members of the Catholic engineering college management association.
KSFECMA chief patron G.P.C. Nayar told this newspaper that the colleges that wanted to provide seats for a lesser fee do so by providing scholarships for the same. The fee structure for private self-financing college last year was as follows: Government quota seats: Rs 50,000 for lower income group. Others: Tuition fee Rs 50,000 and special fee Rs 25,000 35 per cent management seats: Tuition fee Rs 99,000, special fee Rs 25,000 and fixed deposit Rs 1,50,000.
