Court releases Akhila Priya on conditional bail

KURNOOL: Telugu Desam leader and former minister Bhuma Akhila Priya has received conditional bail from Kurnool court on Wednesday and has walked out of the Kurnool Women's Jail.

The court dismissed the petition of police for her continued custody.

The former TD minister had been arrested on May 17 in connection with an attack on TD leader A.V. Subba Reddy.

On the night of May 16, Subba Reddy had been participating in Yuva Galam Padayatra of Nara Lokesh at Kothapalli village in Nandyal district. At the time, an argument took place between TD leaders Akhila Priya and Subba Reddy. Subsequently, Akhila Priya's followers allegedly attacked Subba Reddy, inflicting minor injuries on him.

Following this, Subba Reddy lodged a complaint with Nandyal police, who registered a case against Akhila Priya and her husband under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code.

Police then arrested both the wife and husband and produced them before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

Akhila Priya has a seven-month-old baby. Given this background, her lawyers moved a bail petition in Nandyal court. The court dismissed the bail petition.

Subsequently, her advocates filed another petition in the Kurnool court, which heard the matter and granted her bail on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, police have filed another petition before the court seeking custody of Akhila Priya.
