Hyderabad: The UGC has decided to raise awareness among students against spitting in public. The UGC stated that spitting in public places was a sickening sight and the practice spreads many communicable diseases.

The UGC has launched a campaign to induce people to raise their voice against spitting in public, and enhance administrative measures to stop people from the practice. The notice states, “Rampant spitting is spreading communicable diseases including serious ailments like TB.”

Youngsters have been asked to take an active part in raising awareness among the public by activities like rallies, public education events, sponsoring anti-spitting campaigns that prohibit spitting, littering, vandalism, damaging greenery and smoking in public places.

College NSS wings have been asked to take up an initiative and the UGC wants posters and stickers linking spitting to health problems put up.
