Chennai: Coming out with the broad guidelines for revising the syllabus, the state government has said it is planning to move away from the rote learning to creative learning.
“We will avoid the questions which are repetitive and create an environment for rote learning in the exams. The new evaluation pattern will allow the students to answer without memorising the lessons,” School Education secretary T. Udhayachandran told Deccan Chronicle.
“It’s a long-term plan and will evolve it over a period of time,” he said.
It also plans to introduce the Information Technology to state board students from class 6 to 10 as part of the science subject. It will train the students on using computers and access online resources.
“We will come out with massive e-learning portal for both the teachers and students. All materials will be available in the portal. Students can download their books and there will be e-books, smartbooks, video lessons, refresh materials and there will be tests,” Udhayachandran said.
It also will lay more importance to classroom academic performance by awarding 10 marks for internal assessment in both plus 1 and plus 2. When asked about it Udhayachandran said, “The classroom academic performance of the students will be assessed and given marks. We will give detailed instructions later.” It also plans to come up with students and teachers centred mobile apps. The syllabus for the vocational stream will be revised for plus one in 2018-19 and for plus 2 in 2019-20.
The teachers will be trained to handle the new syllabus. The government has asked the SCERT to prepare an elaborate plan for training the teachers.
