Chennai: Two arrested for rape after minor delivers baby
Chennai: Kancheepuram police on Tuesday arrested a man his father-in-law for allegedly raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl who gave birth to a girl baby on Sunday in a Chengalpet government hospital in the district. The third suspect who had sexually assaulted the girl had died in road mishap three months back, the police said.
A 55-year-old man named S. Krishnan, after luring her with chocolates when she went to forest shepherding goats, initially sexually assaulted the victim, a school drop out and daughter of a daily wage- worker. After sexually assaulting her in the forest, he started taking her to his house, when his daughter and husband were away. One day his son-in-law Murugadas, 33, happened to witness Krishnan and the girl together. Murugadas, a lorry cleaner, later started blackmailing the girl to sexually exploit her. From him, lorry driver, Chandrasekhar came to know about the girl and he had also raped the girl using threat and lure. All these happened in the year 2016.
The girl’s family came to know about the sexual assault when the girl became six months pregnant. Though her mother tried to abort the pregnancy, no doctor was ready to take the risk. The girl was admitted to the hospital with labour pain on Sunday where she delivered a girl baby.
Following this, the hospital authority, informed the police. When questioned by a team from all women police station, the girl named the three persons. “Two of them were arrested under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. Third suspect died in road accident,” police noted.
