Kochi: The Angamaly police probing the death of an 11-year-old girl, who was brought dead to the hospital by her relatives on Monday evening, has found it was a case of suicide.

According to police, the girl committed suicide on Monday evening by hanging on the ceiling while her grandmother went outside. The police, however, launched a probe as the reason behind the suicide is still unclear.

The girl, who was a resident of Kodali in Thrissur reached her mother’s house at Karukutty near Angamaly to stay with her grandmother and uncle last week as part of Vishu holidays.

It was the girl’s uncle and grandmother who brought her to a private hospital in Mookkannoor. They had earlier told the police that she was found unconscious in the wash room at around 4.30 pm on Monday. However, the doctors declared her brought dead. On suspicion of the ligature marks around her neck, the hospital authorities alerted the police who registered a case of unnatural death.

Following this, the police took her uncle into custody for interrogation, but no leads were found. On Tuesday afternoon the postmortem report came from Alappuzha medical college confirming it a suicide, following which the uncle was released, a police official said.
