Maintain status quo on IG Manoj Abraham plaint: Kerala High Court
Kochi: Kerala High Court on Thursday directed vigilance to maintain status quo on a complaint pending before the vigilance court against IG Manoj Abraham alleging amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. The vigilance submitted that it was yet to register a case against the IG based on the Muvattupuzha vigilance court's order. The court recorded the submission of prosecution and adjourned the case to March 28. Court passed the order after Mr Abraham challenged the vigilance court order directing VACB to register a case against him. P.P. Chandrasekharan Nair of Pathanamthitta moved the court accusing him of having an unholy nexus with the quarry "mafia" and misusing his position to stop action against illegal quarrying in Pathanamthitta.
The plea alleged that the officer had constructed a mansion in Thiruvananthapuram and conducted numerous junkets abroad. He had also alleged irregularities by him in the purchase of arms for the India Reserve Battalion and that he had invested a substantial portion of his ill-gotten money in St Mary's group related to his wife. Mr Abraham refuted the charges and argued that the quick verification conducted by a deputy superintendent of police, special cell, vigilance, Ernakulam, had found that there was no material evidence to substantiate allegations and recommended no action against him.
