Kozhikode corporation budget: She Lodge' for outstation women visitors on cards

KOZHIKODE: One of the unique projects proposed by the Corporation in the budget is establishing the ‘She Lodge’ for women. A total of Rs 50 lakh has been earmarked for the preliminary work of the project. ‘She Lodge’ will be coming up on the Corporation’s land near the Railway Station. “Hundreds of women come to Kozhikode city every day for official work and for many other needs. Providing them a safe and secure place is one of the primary concerns of the civic body. At present we don’t have enough facilities to accommodate them. Establishing the ‘She Lodge’ with women as caretakers will solve the issue,” said Deputy Mayor Meera Darsak in her budget speech.

“The working women’s hostel envisaged at Mankavu in City is presently facing some legal issues. We will clear all such issues and start the construction work,” she added. A night cleaning system will also be implemented in the Corporation from the coming financial year. Night Cleaning aims at reducing the discomfort that the public and vehicles face during daytime cleaning at crowded public places in the City.

Night cleaning was done at Moffusil Bus stand on an experimental basis and was found successful. Markets will also be cleaned during night time. Another interesting proposal in the budget is a cemetery for animals. “Presently we don’t have a system for proper burial of animals. This is leading to health as well as environmental issues. The Corporation will establish a scientific cemetery through discussions with experts,” the Deputy Mayor said.
