Hyderabad: Cabbie dies, protest at Osmania General Hospital

The family staged a protest on Thursday morning alleging that he died due to the negligence of doctors.

Hyderabad: Tirupathi Rao, 45, a cabbie from Dilsukhnagar was found dead in the generator chamber of Osmania General Hospital, and his family filed a complaint with Afzalgunj police alleging negligence.

The family staged a protest on Thursday morning alleging that he died due to the negligence of doctors. Rao had epilepsy and developed fits when he went to a medical shop in Dilsukhnagar. He was lying on the road. People called the 108 and he was brought to OGH.

The nurse gave a medicine to stabilise him but he had no attendants. After change in shift the nurse went away and another one who checked him found that he was still unconscious.

A senior post-graduate student explained, “He was lying in the emergency ward and there was no one with him. When we checked again he was not there.”The drugs given for epilepsy have a neurotic effect.

A doctor said, “The patient must have walked out without realising that he could not see properly due to the medicines.” The police thinks that he must have walked to the chambers near the generator and fell inside as he was under medication.

The family said the hospital should have got in touch with them by checking his ID card. Another doctor said, “This is the reason we insist on relatives at the hospital as mishaps can occur with lone patients.
