Kochi: Drunken brawl lands youths in trouble

The youths boarded the Thiruvananthapuram-Palakkad Amrita Express from Kottayam station.

Kochi: Four youths were taken into custody by the Ernakulam railway police after they created a ruckus inside the Amrita Express in an inebriated state and entered into a brawl with the Palakkad Throw Ball Girls Team early on Monday. The youths – Bibijith (22), Vishnu Viswanath (22), Anandan (23) and Rahul (22), boarded the Thiruvananthapuram-Palakkad Amrita Express from Kottayam station.

“The youths boarded the General Compartment of the train at 1.30 am. The Palakkad Under-15 Throw Ball Boys and Girls teams were travelling in the same coach. The youths wanted to be accommodated in the seats in which already four students were seated. A brawl broke out over the issue and they even targeted the coach,” said police.

A case was filed at the Ernakulam South Government Railway Police based on the complaint by the coach who accused the four of using fowl language and verbally abusing the minor students in an inebriated state. “A case was taken against the youths under section 118 (Penalty for causing grave violation of public order or danger in a public place in an intoxicated manner) of the Kerala Police Act. They were later released on own bond,” police said.
