Kerala: Health records now a click away

Once implemented, Kerala will be the first state to take health online.

Thrissur: The health records of state’s population will be a click away soon with the government set to launch E Health project in seven districts on Wednesday. At a press conference here health minister K.K. Shailaja said that the pilot project would be launched in a dozen institutions including primary health centres, taluk hospitals, women and child hospital and public health laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram district. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will launch the programme at model hospital Peroorkada on January 25.

Apart from Thiruvnanthpuram, in the first phase the E-health project will be implemented in Alappuzha, Kasargod, Malappuram, Idukki , Ernakulam and Kannur. The remaining seven districts will be taken up during the second phase.
As part of project which is being implemented at a cost of Rs 96.12 crore, the health data will be computerized and entered in State Data Centre through Kerala State Wide Area Network. It would be registered on the basis of Adhaar number and voter I cards. The health minister said the health record of each person seeking treatment at primary health centre, community health centre and hospitals, will be available for reference for the doctors.

This will provide entire health profile of each patient including family history, ailments, medicines taken and life style parameters which will help doctors plan proper treatment protocol. OP counters, examination rooms, laboratories, pharmacy, administrative department will all be connected through local area network in hospitals and health centers. Once the patient reaches the OP counter, through his adhaar card, all medical records would be downloaded by the hospital after entering unique identification number.
