Thanka anki procession sets off from Aranmula

The thanka anki was gifted by Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma of the Travancore royal family.

Kottayam: The procession carrying ‘Thanka anki’ with which the idol of Lord Ayyappa at the Sabarimala temple for the Mandala Pooja will be adoned, took off from the Aranmula Parthasarathy temple on Thursday. The ‘Thanka anki’, is a dress made of gold. Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) President Prayar Gopalakrishnan, member Ajay Tharayil, Devaswom administrative officer G. Venugopal, and special officer for the Thankayaki procession N. Rajeev Kumar were present on the occasion.

On Thursday at 7am the ‘Thanka anki’ was draped at the Kizhakenada of the Parthasarathy temple. The Melshanthi of the Parthasarathy temple lit the traditional lamp marking the beginning of the journey. The procession will rest at the Omalloor Rakthakanda Swamy temple after passing through Moorthitta Ganapthy temple, Nedumprayar Thevalasserry temple, Elanthoor Bhagavathy temple, Elanthoor Narayana Mangalam, Kaithavanam Devi temple among other temples.
