Naxal IEDs Recovered at Under-Construction Railway Bridge, Iron Ore Mines in Bastar

RAIPUR: Security forces recovered several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted at a place falling under an iron ore mining area and near an under-construction railway bridge in Bastar in Chhattisgarh, police said on Thursday.

According to the police, a joint search party of security personnel while returning to their base camps after conducting combing operations in the forests under Aranpur police station in Dantewada district detected four IEDs planted by Maoists near Lohegaon coming under the iron ore mining area of Kirandul in the district.

The bomb disposal squad (BDS) accompanying them defused the IEDs, police said.

In another incident, security forces detected an IED planted by Maoists under a railway bridge being constructed near the village of Kosaronda in Antagarh in Kanker district.

A BDS team defused the IED.

The railway bridge is a part of the ambitious Rowghat Railway Project.

Patrolling party comprising personnel of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) detected the IED, averting a major mishap, police said.

If remained undetected, the Maoists could have triggered the IED blast to damage the railway bridge, police said.
