Shamna Tasnim's father quizzed by Crime Branch
KOCHI: The Crime Branch team probing the death of medico Shamna Tasnim on Tuesday took the statement of her father K.A. Abootty on the death of the girl. Crime Branch DySP K. Sasidharan took the statement at the agency’s office at Tripunithura in the morning which lasted two hours. It is learnt that the father narrated the whole sequence of incidents beginning with the call of the girl to her home in Kannur stating that she had fever and had come to the Ernakulam Government Medical College, where she studied, to consult doctors.
The father also told the investigating officer about the discrepancies in the nurses’ records and doctors’ records regarding the sequence of treatment. He also informed him what Shamna’s classmates told him about her collapse after the administering of the Ceftriaxone injection and that she was never resurrected later. Abootty is also learnt to have told the DySP that his daughter had already died at 3.45 pm at EMC and still making a mockery of even the profession and with scant respect for her daughter they administered Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on her and even shifted the body to a private hospital ‘for further expert treatment’, to escape blame.
He also asked the investigating officer to look into the report of the three member panel headed by Joint Director of Medical Education (JDME) into his daughter’s death which explicitly pointed to medical negligence. The DySP asked the father to submit the report of the JDME panel for examining, which he agreed to do. Meanwhile it is learnt that the state apex medical body that looks into the case of medical negligence will hold its sitting at Ernakulam Government Guest House at 10.30 am on Thursday. The medical board consists of DHS, DME and Director General of Prosecution (DGP) or his nominee. The board may invite a forensic surgeon also to the meet.
