Kerala: Crime Branch arrests minister's staff for murder
Thiruvananthapuram: Two CPM-DYFI activists, including a minister's personal staff member, were taken into custody by the CBI on Tuesday in connection with murder of a Congress activist at Anchal in Kollam. Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation chairman S Jayamohan and a DYFI leader were directed to appear before CBI on Wednesday.
DYFI leader and member of fisheries minister J. Mercy Kutty Amma's personal staff Maxin of Kundara and CPM Kollam district committee member K. Babu Panicker were arrested. Jayamohan and DYFI local leader Riyaz of Punalur were quizzed on Tuesday and directed to appear at CBI office on Wednesday. Jayamohan is also a a member of CPM Kollam district secretariat. Ramabhadran, a Congress local leader of Eroor in Anchal, was murdered in April 2010 by a gang at his house.
Political rivalry was said to be the reason for the murder. The case, which was earlier charge sheeted by the Crime Branch, was later transferred to CBI after Ramabhadran's wife approached court seeking a probe into the conspiracy behind the murder. A CBI team attached to Thiruvananthapuram unit summoned the four to the CBI camp office at Kottarakara for quizzing on Tuesday CBI suspect that the key accused in the case is CPM activist P.S. Suman of Anchal. He is absconding. The murder of Ramabhadran was sequel to clashes between CPM and Congress.
