Admiral's Cup regatta from December 5
Kannur: A total of 19 countries, including hosts India, will participate in the seventh edition of ‘Admiral’s Cup’ regatta (a sporting event consisting of a series of boat or yacht races) organised by the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, from December 5 to 11. The teams from international naval academies will arrive at Ezhimala and compete in sailing at the Ettikulum bay on laser (radial) class sail-boats.
The INA cadets will compete with those from other countries. There has been growing participation from foreign teams. In 2010, when the Admiral’s Cup was launched, there were eight foreign teams, but now there are 18, including from the UK and the US, which is the defending champion. China won the runners-up cup and hosts India represented by the INA came third.
There will be trainers from India, United Kingdom, US, Australia, Bangladesh, China, France, Portugal, Netherlands, Poland, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Philippines, Oman, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Myanmar. The cup would be awarded to the best team winning the championship on the basis of its combined performance. Individual medals will also be awarded. The winners will carry home the replicas of the Admiral's Cup and runners-up cup as these are rolling trophies.
