Thiruvananthapuram: V. M. Sudheeran, former KPCC president, who has created hostility among a section of his party colleagues has decided to take a backseat while his wife, Latha, is moving forward in a new avatar. And no, it is not politics but a a plant nursery business initiative, Saugandhikam. The nursery outlet will see orchids, indoor plants and gardening equipment for sale. Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate it at Kallampally near Sreekariyam here on Wednesday at 9:30 am.
Latha is known as an avid gardener and has an excellent terrace vegetable garden as well as a huge collection of orchids, 23 types of fruit-bearing trees and flowering plants at their home at Gowreesapattom. Ever since she retired as zonal officer with the Catholic Syrian Bank last November, she was keen to chase her dream of setting up a plant nursery. “I have taken 13 cents of land at Kallampally at Sreekariyam here on a two-year lease. My husband tried to dissuade me from venturing into this business. But our children, Salila and Sarin, were keen to see that I pursue my hobby and take it to the next level,” said Latha to DC. Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Mayor V. K. Prasanth will preside over the function. Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain will carry out the first sale.
