Hyderabad: The Union power ministry has circulated draft guidelines to the state government for its proposed scheme to use treated sewage water in thermal power plants (TPPs). According to the norms, thermal power plants can use treated water from sewage treatment plants (STPs) located within a 50-km radius.

The power ministry has suggested the TPPs to tie up with the local municipal body for the usage of treated sewage water. It suggested competitive bidding to build STPs either through the Public-Private Partnership or Engineering Procurement and Construction mode. It said work should be divided in two parts.

Part A includes raw sewage supply system from source to the STP and till the tertiary treatment plant , which will be paid for by the local body, and Part B includes the TTP, water pumping station, conveying pipeline up to point of delivery the cost of which will be borne by the TPP.
