BJP president Amit Shah skips birthday bash plans
Thiruvananthapuram: BJP president Amit Shah during his June visit had promised the state leaders to celebrate his 53rd birthday in Kerala on Sunday. He wanted them to form 85 percent of booth committees which failed due to medical college scam fiasco and then Kummanam Rajasekharan's much-hyped Janaraksha Yatra. But much had happened in the BJP state politics after the Shah diktat. As per his advice, the state president had appointed prabharis (in-charge) and samyojaks (coordinator) in all the 20 Lok Sabha constituencies and Assembly segments during June. Sensing his annoyance, they sprang into action for a while but only to go lax gradually.
“As far as I am aware of, the booth committees have not been appointed in the right vigour. Initially, there was some momentum, but later on, it just fizzled out,” said a former state president., The in-charges, coordinators and full-time workers were supposed to take the government's flagship programmes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and Right to Information (RTI) to the people.
They were to give a progress report on Oct 22 when Mr Shah was expected to arrive. Mr Rajasekharan said booth committees were being formed, but he was awaiting reports from district presidents on numbers. “Coinciding with the Janaraksha Yatra, booth meetings were held religiously. We have decided to hold two daylong meeting of state office bearers, state committee and district presidents during Oct 29 – 30 in Alappuzha. The district leaders will report there,” he said.
