Opposition DMK calls for all-party Cauvery meet
Chennai: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Saturday invited all parties to take part in the meeting convened by the DMK on October 25 to discuss the next course of action on the Cauvery dispute.
The appeal was made at a public meeting at Singaperumal Koil in Kanchipuram district when about 12,000 activists from the DMDK, MDMK. PMK, BJP, VCK and Left parties joined the DMK. Pointing out that the invitation had been given to the MDMK, PMK and BJP, Stalin said his party had invited those parties which spit hatred on the DMK.
He said the DMK, which held a hunger protest in Thanjavur, had appealed to the state government to hold an all-party meeting.
Stalin said he had met finance minister O. Panneerselvam with the same request had earlier said the DMK would hold the all party meeting if the ruling party did not do so.
However, the meeting is likely to turn into a meeting of DMK alliance parties as the PWA and BJP rejected the invitation to the meet. MDMK leader and PWA co-ordinator Vaiko said the PWA constituents would not join the meet, since it had been called for political reasons.
