Kozhikode: Auto driver succumbs, four city men held
Kozhikode: Police on Sunday arrested two more CPM workers in connection with the death of auto driver Nalonnukandi Rajesh, 32, of Elathur. He was undergoing treatment at Medical College Hospital after self-immolation on September 15.
He died late Saturday night, according to the police. CITU workers had stopped him driving his auto-rickshaw and make a living anywhere in Elathur and when he questioned, they beat him up brutally.
Those arrested on Sunday were Eroth Thazha-th Murali, 50, and CITU leader Khadasi, 44, a native of Vellayil.
Earlier two other CITU workers, O.K. Sreelesh, 42, and Shaiju, 44, were arrested and charged them under IPC 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (Rioting), 341 (Wrongful restraint), 506 (Criminal intimidation) and 308 (culpable homicide).
Meanwhile, BJP workers laid a road blockade at Elathur with the body of Rajesh demanding an assurance from either the district collector or the city police commissioner that all the accused would be arrested soon.
The police blocked their protest march 50 metres away from the Elathur police station.
Rajesh purchased the vehicle two weeks back on a bank loan. Though he tried to park it after taking permit at the auto stand, other auto drivers prevented him.
They also allegedly beat him up and threatened to kill his ailing wife.
