Kozhikode corporation wants land given to P T Usha back

Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that the issue would be brought to the attention of the state government to take necessary action.

KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation council meeting unanimously decided to urge the state government to revoke the decision to allot land for athlete P.T. Usha to construct a house in the land meant for construction of a hostel in West Hill Government College of Engineering. A resolution moved by Eranjippalam councilor Bijuraj T.C. expressing concern over the allotment of the land, which would lead to creating hurdles for the development of the College, was backed by the opposition. Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that the issue would be brought to the attention of the state government to take necessary action.

The council also passed an adjournment motion condemning the heinous murder of noted journalist Gauri Lankesh and demanded that the Union and Karnataka governments to bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice. The motion presented by M. Seleena of CPM was supported by K.T. Beeran Koya of IUML. A motion presented by Congress leader P.M. Suresh Babu condemning the state government’s shift in liquor policy enacted by the former UDF government was rejected by the council after voting.

An adjournment motion by T.C. Bijuraj demanding that the union government take steps to control the price rise of petrol, diesel and cooking gas was also passed by the council unanimously. Earlier, the BJP’s amendment urging the state government to cut VAT was rejected. However, the amendment by Nadakkavu councilor and JD (U) leader P. Kishan Chand demanding that the union government implement GST in the fuel price was approved.
