Kerala: Four self-financing medical colleges asked to reconsider applications

The ranks of candidates, who are already included in the admission list, are only provisional.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Admission Supervisory Committee (ASC) headed by Justice J.M. James committee has asked four self- financing medical colleges to provide another opportunity to all applicants to rectify the defects in their applications which were rejected on technical grounds. A meeting of the committee held here on Thursday asked P.K. Das Institute of Medical Sciences, Ottappalam, Azeezia Institute of Medical Sciences, Kollam, Al Azhar Medical College, Thodupuzha and Travancore Medical College, Kollam, to include the eligible candidates in the rank list maintaining inter se merit, transparency and academic excellence.

The ranks of candidates, who are already included in the admission list, are only provisional. If new candidates come above the provisionally admitted candidates in the list, they should be given their due merit position from among the entire applicants. The applicants of P.K. Das Institute of Medical Sciences have been asked to appear with all the documents and the required fees before the principal between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on September 24. The applicants of Azeezia Institute of Medical Sciences have to rectify the defects noted by the college before 5 p.m. on September 24.

The Al Azhar Medical College published the list of eligible and rejected candidates on Thursday. The college has been directed to give an opportunity to all the rejected candidates to submit the documents on or before 5 p.m. on September 26. It should publish the eligible applicants’ list on September 26 itself and forward it to the ASC for scrutiny. The admissions from the eligible applicants’ list should be made on September 27. The eligible applicants should remit the fees and submit the original documents to complete admission on or before September 28.

Justice James has directed Travancore Medical College, Kollam, to give an opportunity to applicants to rectify lapses so that they could be considered for the MBBS admission process on or before September 24. The commission sitting is yet to complete.. The lone complaint against Jubilee Medical College, Thrissur, was rejected, as the complainant’s son did not secure 75 percent marks for biology. The prospectus had a provision that an applicant must have at least 75 percent marks in biology separately and 75 percent marks in biology, physics and chemistry put together. Hence the committee approved the rejection of the admission by the college.
