Kerala Congress (M) gets separate block in Assembly

Mr Mani had earlier said that KC (M) would remain as a constructive opposition.

Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan has said that Kerala Congress (M) will be allowed to sit as a separate bloc in the Assembly considering the request of party chief K. M. Mani when the House begins its sitting on Monday. KC (M) has six legislators and with the party sitting as a separate bloc, the strength of the UDF will come down to 41. Mr Mani had earlier said that KC (M) would remain as a constructive opposition.

The session will consider key legislations including the Amendment to Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act and Devaswom Recruitment Bill. The session may also discuss reports of various Assembly committees. "Many important reports of the committees were going unnoticed. Hence they would be taken up for discussions in the House from this session onward," he said.

The Devaswom Recruitment Bill will be tabled on the first day itself. Discussions on the budget will be held during the 29-day session scheduled to conclude on November 10. Mr Sreeramakrishnan said that a seminar on GST Bill would be held on the Assembly premises on September 29 to create awareness among the MLAs about the new tax rules. Finance minister Thomas Isaac will lead the seminar.
