Illegal breeding of pigs poses health hazards
Hyderabad: Unidentified persons are illegally breeding pigs in a cremation ground situated in Ayodhyanagar, Mehdipatnam. Local residents expressed the fear of the spread of diseases.
Local resident Nayeem Gouri complained that some persons were secretly involved in pig farming in the interiors of the Bojagutta Hindu graveyard without taking permits for the authorities concerned. He alleged that a few workers of the GHMC were involved in the racket and were dumping wet garbage in the area which can be used as swill for the pigs.
He said the illegal piggery had converted the graveyard into a dirty place which germinates bacteria and viruses. The number of stray pigs in the area had increasing, creating nuisance for the residents, he said.
Mr Gouri said he had complained several times to the municipality but in vain. “Our children run the risk of getting diseases.” he said and asked the GHMC to appoint ‘pig catchers’ and take action against those who are responsible for breeding of pigs in a graveyard.
