Hyderabad: 1 faces axe for not closing manhole

The board conducted an inquiry and found that the contractor, Karthi Enterprises, had not put erected barricades at the site.

Hyderabad: Taking swift action, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board managing director M. Dana Kishore on Thursday suspended section incharge D. Chandru for negligence in ensuring that safety measures were in place at a manhole, after a child fell in it and was grievously injured. Mr Kishore ordered compensation of Rs 25,000 to be paid to the family of a one-and-a-half year old who fell in the manhole and was undergoing treatment. The board also ordered blacklisting the contractor.

The manhole is located near GBS Function Hall in Mahaviry-adavnagar in Tappacha-butra. The child, Dikshat, fell into the unguarded manhole on Wednesday and sustained severe injuries. He was rushed by a passerby to the Niloufer hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Doctors said his condition was serious. The board conducted an inquiry and found that the contractor, Karthi Enterprises, had not put erected barricades at the site. Kirthi Enterprises was blacklisted after the incident.
