Telangana: Nine districts declared backward

Last year, too, the Centre had notified these nine districts as backward areas and gave a grant of Rs 50 crore each, amounting to Rs 450 cr.

Hyderabad: The Centre on Friday issued a gazette, dated July 20, notifying nine districts barring Hyderabad as backward areas. Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Medak, Mahbubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda and Khammam districts were notified as backward areas.

Last year, too, the Centre had notified these nine districts as backward areas and gave a grant of Rs 50 crore each, amounting to Rs 450 crore.

With extension of one more year, these districts would be entitled for another Rs 450 crore grant from the Centre. The TS government has been seeking Rs 100 crore to each of these districts totalling Rs 900 crore.

The notification was issued by the ministry of finance in exercise of powers conferred by Sections 32 and 32AD of the Income-Tax Act, 1961.
