Shamna's death: Kerala police to give case sheets to medical team

The Medical Board will be constituted to probe whether there was any lapse leading to the death

Kochi: The police team probing the death of MBBS student of Ernakulam Government Medical College (EMC) Shamna Thasnim would hand over the case sheets seized from two hospitals to the Medical Board to be constituted by the District Medical Officer to probe whether there was any lapse leading to the death. "The technical aspect of the case will be handled by the Medical Board and the case sheets seized from the EMC and Rajagiri Hospital where she was shifted last, will be handed over to them. Based on their expert opinion and post mortem report, arrests, if any, can be made," said Kalamassery Circle Inspector Martin C. J.

Meanwhile, District Medical Officer Dr K. Kuttapan said he is yet to get any intimation from the Health Department regarding constitution of the medical board. In the light of this development, it is now understood that the case sheets will be scrutinised by the high level medical department probe team instituted by the Health Minister K K Shylaja to probe the death.

The team is led by Joint Director of Medical Education Dr K Sreekumari who herself is a forensic surgeon, who is expected to reach EMC on Monday for the probe. The examination of the case sheets is crucial as there are allegations that Shamna was shifted from EMC to Rajagiri after she died, in order to save certain persons. The case sheet can reveal if any such thing happened, said medical sources. The team will also take the versions students and others. Shamna Tasnim, 21, died on Monday night after she was given an injection at the medical college.
