Government sacks five Calicut University syndicate members

The sixth nominated member P. K Supran had already resigned and joined the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections.

Kozhikode: The state government on Friday late night sacked five government nominated syndicate members of Calicut University, appointed during the tenure of UDF government. Dr V.P Abdul Hameed, Adv P.M Niyas, Dr Abida Farooqui, Adv Rajeevan Malliseri and Dr Abid Hussain Thangal, nominees of Congress and IUML are the members shown the door from the Syndicate. The sixth nominated member P. K Supran had already resigned and joined the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections.

The state government has also nominated six new syndicate members from pro-CPM and CPI service organisations. The new members are Association of Calicut University Teachers (ACT) General Secretary Dr. P Sivadasan, Dr. Abdul Majeed from Unity College Manjery, former higher secondary director C.P Chithra, Dr C.C Babu from Chalakkudy Government College, Dr P Vijayaraghvan from MAMO College, Mukkam and A.K Haneefa,a higher secondary teacher from Kozhikode. Following the new development, the syndicate meeting scheduled to be held on Saturday has been postponed.
