Intermediate student ends life after being scolded by parents for scoring low marks

HYDERABAD: A 17-year-old Intermediate student died by suicide on Thursday. Police said her parents had scolded her for scoring low marks in her first year examination. Her father, a vegetable vendor, found her lying unconscious at their house in NBT Nagar, Banjara Hills, and took her to a private hospital where the doctors declared her dead. The victim was their only daughter.

A woman died by suicide along with her daughter following alleged dowry harassment by her husband and mother-in-law, at her house in Sitarambagh on Wednesday night, police said on Wednesday.

The victim, Magnipally Mahalakshmi, and her 22-month-old daughter Sasvika died on the way to hospital, Habeebnagar police said.

Police said Mahalakshmi was married to an electrician, M. Srikanth. After giving birth to their daughter, Srikanth and his mother in-law Bharatamma were allegedly constantly harassing Mahalakshmi for additional dowry, police said.

Police registered a case of murder and abetment to suicide and began investigations.
