HCA contempt case: Azhar appears before HC

HYDERABAD: Former president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) Mohammed Azharuddin on Friday appeared before the Telangana High Court in a contempt case filed against him for willful disobedience in complying with the court orders in allowing the Nalgonda District Cricket Association (NDCA) to participate in the HCA league matches.

He is also accused of not allowing registration of NDCA players for the Nawab M.A.K. Pataudi T20 tournament despite specific directions by the High Court to allow their participation.

Further, it was complained that Azharuddin and other HCA members had refused to oblige the court orders and had instead asked NDCA players to come to HCA for selecting their team.

On April 28, while dealing with the contempt petition filed by NDCA, the High Court single judge Justice Tadakamalla Vinod Kumar had summoned Azharuddin to appear before the court on June 23. In his counter, Azharuddin said he alone could not take a decision on court orders. Not satisfied with the counter, the court directed Azharuddin to appear again on August 4.

HC registry asked to submit report on land to Peddapalli dist court complex

In a dispute over the construction of Peddapalli district court complex in Peddapalli, a division bench of Telangana High Court, comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji directed the High Court registrar to form a committee with district revenue officials, judicial officers and members of Peddapalli Bar Association to discuss the matter and place a report before it by August 8.

As part of the new judicial territory, the state government proposed to allot seven acres of land in Survey No. 425 of Kannala of Palakurthi mandal and in Survey No. 192 of Raghavapur of Peddapalli mandal.

After several representations, the collector agreed to allot land to the extent of 13.20 acres. But, the advocates association objected, stating that it was assigned to someone else. They suggested that the court complex could be constructed at the nearby Peddapalli collector office.
