Technopark not free from mosquito menace
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Officials at the Fire and Rescue Services station at Technopark are now have having a tough time to ensure their safety, not from fire, but from diseases like dengue. All thanks to the mosquito breeding sites nearby. Some techies at Technopark had also taken up the mosquito issue with the authorities. The Technopark is surrounded by water bodies and marshy lands, which has been triggering the mosquito menace. In the wake of the complaints, the park authorities are ensuring fogging by the city corporation inside the Technopark.
The Fire and Rescue station close to the Technopark’s main entrance is the worst hit because of the water bodies and marshy land just behind the station. Sewage water from some buildings also allegedly flows into the area, worsening the situation. “We are really having a tough time dealing with the mosquitoes at a time when diseases like dengue are spreading. Since most of the companies in the campus are air-conditioned, they may not be feeling the severity of the problem. We had requested the Technopark authorities to provide at least mosquito nets on our building,” said an official at the fire station.
Meanwhile, Technopark assistant manager human-resources Mr. Abhilash D S said that the issue of the mosquito menace at the fire station had not yet come to his notice. “There were some complaints of a mosquito problem in the campus and hence we are ensuring fogging by the city Corporation. We can provide mosquito nets to the fire station if a proposal is received,” he said.
