Kozhikode: It was two years ago that Kudumbashree realized the need for hostel facilities for the city, as it was witnessing the entry of more and more women and students from other districts and states.This led to two hostels exclusively run by Kudumbahsree. Now this team of women has envisaged a plan to construct atleast 10 women’s hostels in various parts of the city in a span of two years. In addition to this, Kudumbashree will also construct hostels that aim at offering affordable accommodation for women who travel to the city for a short stay.
At present, the hostel run by Kudumbashree near Kozhikode Beach, earmarks a small part to women who have come from outside the city, considering the difficulty faced by them to find accommodation. “A master plan for the hostel facility has been made which will soon be implemented. We have already identified plots for the construction of these hostels within the corporation limit”, said Ramsy Ismail, Kudumbashree Project Officer. "The two hostels in the city Feminera and She stay were filled to capacity in just six months. More women prefer our hostels, as they are run by women ensuring all security and safety, he added. “This has been an inspiration for us to construct more such facilities in the city,” he said.
