Krishnagiri: Student thrashed for using mobile

The 17-year-old lad, K. Prem Kumar, has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Krishnagiri government hospital on Thursday.

KRISHNAGIRI: Corporal punishment reared its ugly head once again when a Plus-2 student of a government higher secondary school here was critically injured after allegedly being beaten black and blue by some of his teachers. The 17-year-old lad, K. Prem Kumar, has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Krishnagiri government hospital on Thursday. Sources here said that the boy, student of Shoolgiri government higher secondary school, started getting seizures in school and had fallen sick. The boy’s parents attributed it to the teachers beating him up severely for using the mobile phone inside the school campus.

“At around 2 pm I was in the school because of a phone call from the teacher about my son using mobile phone inside the school. He was found lying near the toilet and started having seizures. Three teachers stood at the place surrounding the boy without helping him," 45-year-old P.Krishnappa of Gangapuram village, near Shoolagiri and father of Prem Kumar later told reporters. “Immediately he was taken to the Shoolagiri government hospital and then shifted to the Krishnagiri government hospital as his health condition has become worse,” he added. According to Krishnappa, the boy has wounds all over his body.
