Counselling for engineering course after MBBS admission
Chennai: Engineering courses’ counselling is likely to start after MBBS admissions this year, higher education minister K.P. Anbalagan said. He said over 5,000 of 6,730 top rankers in B.E. B.Tech counselling are eligible to join medical courses. “If these students join MBBS course then engineering seats in top colleges will fall vacant,” he told reporters here after releasing the rank list for engineering counselling.
“If B.E., B.Tech. first-year classes are not able to start on August 1 as stipulated by the court, the state government will get special permission from the court to start classes after a week or 10 days.”Of 1.41 lakh students 1.36 lakh students were found eligible.
This year 59 students have got 200 out of 200 marks in engineering counselling. B. Sriram from Thanjavur topped the rank list and was followed by M. Hari Vishnu from Tiruppur and V. Saairam from Chennai who got second and third ranks.Of 59 students, 36 are eligible to join medical courses.
Among 811 students who got 199 cut-off marks, 645 are eligible to join the MBBS. Those who got 198 cut-off marks, 1,581 are eligible and in 197, 3,014 students eligible the medical courses.Engg counselling is scheduled to start on June 27. Neet results are expected on June 26. After that, the TN government will release guidelines for MBBS admissions and conduct the counselling. This will at least take a week or two. So, in all likelihood, the engg counselling may begin either in first week or second week of July.
