IIT-Hyderabad Open Days' a hit

Dr Subrahmanyam, JEE Chair, IIT Hyderabad said this was the first such programme in their institution.

Hyderabad: IIT-Hyderabad, which bagged a commendable seventh rank in MHRD rankings among all technical institutions in India recently, has set a new precedent this year.

It invited JEE rankers and their parents to visit the institution and have firsthand experience of the state-of-the-art infrastructure besides interacting with the teaching faculty.

Named “Open Days”, the concept received good response with over 100 students, accompanied by their parents, descending on the sprawling campus of nearly 500 acres at Sangareddy, Medak district on June 17 and 18.

Dr Subrahmanyam, JEE Chair, IIT Hyderabad said this was the first such programme in their institution. The special guests went around the campus, checked hostels and even had lunch at the IIT-H canteen. The administration also deputed faculty members from various departments in one room for an interaction with the prospective engineering aspirants.

Besides personal visits, some students have made phone queries and some others have sought clarifications over e-mail, the senior staff member said. IIT-Hyderabad has an intake of 240 students in the first-year.
