GHMC acts tough on hoardings
The GHMC Commissioner has warned private advertising agencies about the strength of existing hoarding sand unipoles. The city body has asked agencies to follow rules and make sure structural stability of the hoardings and unipoles are as per regulation. The warning follows the collapse of an advertising unipole this May, which also caused deaths.
“The main priority of the GHMC is to safeguard security of citizens – not revenue. Last month strong winds brought down several advertising hoardings in the city. Engineers from JNTU are coordinating with agencies to determine structural integrity of existing structures across the city of Hyderabad, ” said Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner, GHMC.
According to records, there are 2,700 authorized hoardings and unipoles in the city. It’s believed that the number of illegal advertising structures are higher.
