Chennai rains to continue till month-end
Chennai: The 4.2mm of rainfall in Chennai on Wednesday has transformed the city’s weather from being sultry to pleasant.
Also, Chennai’s Nungambakkam at 33.1 degrees Celsius has recorded not just the lowest temperature for June month this year, but also marked 3.5 degrees below the normal.
Northern parts of the city experienced good amount of rainfall compared with Chennai airport, which saw 2.9mm. Weather blogger, Pradeep John attributed the rainfall activity to convective heat and upper air circulation at South Andhra and Tamil Nadu coast.
According to the data from regional meteorological centre, southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Rayalaseema region, helping rainfall activity in the bordering TN districts.
According to weather bloggers, the rainfall activity in the city is expected to continue till the end of the June. “The upper air circulation may descend down as a low pressure area towards the month end which would move away towards Andhra- Orissa coast,” added John.
The low pressure, if formed would be the first such one for the monsoon, it was learnt. Talking about the rainfall pattern, John said the city would have rains mostly in late evenings and nights whereas other northern districts will witness it during noon and evenings.
