Aditya Valavi in jail for 24 hours

The court issued strict instructions to the police that Aditya should not be tortured physically or mentally in any manner.

Kochi: The Kakkanad first class judicial magistrate court has granted custody of Aditya Valavi, arrested in connection with the forged bank document case linked to Cardinal George Alencherry, major archbishop of Syro-Malabar Church, for another 24 hours on Wednesday and directed the police investigating team to produce him in the court on Thursday at 12 noon.

The court issued strict instructions to the police that Aditya should not be tortured physically or mentally in any manner. In case of any such torture, the same should be told to the court openly, the order said. The court made the order in a petition filed by the police seeking custody of Aditya for three more days. The court has not heard bail application filed by Aditya on Wednesday.

The police team investigating the forged document case has stated that Aditya had forged documents against Cardinal Alencherry at the behest of Fr Antony Kalloo-karan, Vicar of the Muringoor Sanjoe Nagar Church. According to the police the conspiracy was hatched by Fr Paul Thelakkat and Fr Kallookaran for fabricating the documents and used Aditya for the purpose. Fr Kallookaran, who has filed an anticipatory bail in the high court, is absconding after the police implicated him as the fourth accused in the case.

Aditya, an alumnus of IIT, meanwhile, had told the court the other day that he was tortured brutally for implicating Fr Thelakkat and Fr Kallookaran in the case.

The Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese has also questioned the police version and called for a judicial or CBI probe into forged document case.

Bishop Jacob Manathodath, apostolic administrator and Bishop Sebastian Adayantharath auxiliary bishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly had questioned the version of the investigation team in a media conference held on Monday.
