BJP latches on to attack theme
Thiruvananthapuram: Even as the BJP protest in front of the CPM headquarters in New Delhi turned violent, the party’s state president Kummanam Rajasekharan and Central leaders on Sunday met President Pranab Mukherjee to seek his intervention to stop ‘atrocities on party workers in Kerala’.
Mr Rajasekharan rushed to New Delhi late on Saturday after the Central BJP leadership decided to meet the President as well as to attend the protest march. The delegation also consisted of Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Ghadkari, Health Minister J. P. Nadda, Ministers of State Nirmala Sitaraman and Rajiv Pratap Rudy and party spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi.
After meeting the President, Mr. Gadkari said that it was unfortunate that the Congress is keeping mum over the attacks the CPM is unleashing against the BJP and RSS workers. “We have given the President details of various cases, including photographs,” he said. “Our worker Pramod was killed few days back. Houses of more than 100 workers have been vandalised and the situation is very grim there. The President has assured us that he will take appropriate action.”
Terming the attacks “not good for democracy,” Mr Gadkari said democracy is a battle of ideas and parties cannot grow by taking law into their hands. “We hope that those having faith in democracy will condemn this violence,” he said. Scores of BJP supporters staged the demonstration outside AKG Bhavan office of the CPM at Gole Market in New Delhi protesting against the murder of RSS worker Pramod, allegedly by CPM workers at a victory rally in Thrissur on May 19.
