BJP nominee heckled by youths in Varuna seat

BENGALURU: After Bharatiya Janata Party Lok Sabha member Pratap Simha came under attack from the people of Varuna seat in Mysuru district, on Sunday it was BJP nominee for Varuna seat V. Somanna who was heckled by youths during his campaigning in the seat.

Somanna and his supporters reached Bhugatagalli village and a youth reportedly invited the BJP nominee for a discussion and Somanna is said to have told the youth to speak to him after he finished his campaigning at the village.

Things went smooth until Somanna finished his campaign wherein sought votes for the BJP in the ensuing Assembly elections. Just before he finished his speech, a few youths invited Somanna for a discussion. By that time, some more youths joined in and shouted slogans in favour of Congress nominee and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Sensing trouble, supporters of Somanna escorted him to the car and sped away.

Reacting to the incident at Bhugatagalli, Somanna said some youths objected and he was unfazed by the incident and he has been in politics since 45 years and has come across such incidents several times in his career.

A couple of days back, BJP MP Pratap Simha was taken to task by voters during his campaigning in Varuna seat and the voters questioned Pratap Simha “BJP is favouring changing the Constitution framed by Dr BR Ambedkar?” and a fellow villager asked the BJP MP “Why has the LPG cylinder cost gone up” and his other query was “Why has rice for BPL families been reduced from 7 kgs to 5 kgs under the BJP rule?”

In Varuna seat, BJP nominee Somanna is contesting against Congress leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
