Coimbatore: On his way back home from work, 25-year old Manoj Kumar met with an accident on his two-wheeler, following which he sustained severe traumatic brain injury. The accident took place during the weekend. The youth was admitted to city-based Sri Ramakrishna Hospital where a team of neurosurgeons and critical care experts treated him. However, as the nature of the injury he suffered was severe, patient Manoj Kumar was declared brain-dead. The youth’s family also expressed willingness to donate his organs to others who may need them.

The hospital obtained required approval for the procedure of organ donation from Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) and the necessary paperwork and legal formalities were completed without wasting any time. While one of the kidneys was used to perform a kidney transplantation procedure at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, the other organs including the second kidney, liver, heart and eyes were donated to patients in other hospitals as per government waiting list.
