Thiruvananthapuram: Probe into case of man with severely burnt limb
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has sought a report from the district labour officer on a private hospital's refusal to treat a man who severely burnt his left hand while working at their laundry. The complaint filed by M. Gopinathan Nair of Andoorkonam says his son Akhil, 21, was assigned for works at KIMS Hospital by a workforce supply company and on September 19, 2016, he suffered burns. After being hospitalised at KIMS, his family had to shift him to Peroorkada ESI Hospital soon as its authorities denied him treatment despite they offering to pay for it.
Instead of providing an ambulance, he was sent away by an autorickshaw. Since he did not get appropriate treatment at Peroorkada hospital, he faced the risk of amputation. The family them took him to Believers Church Medical College Hospital at Thiruvalla where he underwent two surgeries but not completely recovered. Also, his salary dues were also denied. Hence he should get compensated, the complaint said. KSHRC acting president P. Mohandas has directed the labour officer to probe into the service and wage conditions of workers at the hospital. The commission will consider the case next month, an official statement said.
