IT industry joins hands to make Malabar IT hub
KOZHIKODE: Organizations, IT parks and investors in IT sector will be organising regular events in each month to attract top IT brands to Kozhikode. All the major players in the IT sector in the region have consented to join hands to promote the region apart from promoting themselves. The decision was taken in the review meeting of the IT conclave. It is to be recalled that the IT conclave was conducted to moot ways and means to attract more players into the budding IT industry of the city which has more than 50 firms now.
Majority of the participants in the conclave feel that a concerted effort is essential to meet the targets. Though few companies are doing well it is insufficient to transform the region into an IT hub. The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Calicut Forum for IT (CafIT), Malabar Chamber of Commerce and the two IT Parks, the government Cyber Park and the Uralunkal Cyber Park would join hands to promote the region. P.T. Haris from Calicut Forum for IT (CafIT) feels that the quality of new entrants into IT sector hatched in the engineering colleges of the region are poor. “Except for a few institutions, majority are not at all ready to interact with the IT sector to upgrade teaching and learning process in tune with the changing trends and growing demands of the industry,” he added.
More focus should be given to education sector with proper industry-institution linkages, he said. IT Conclave coordinator P.M. Prashanth said that though many of the successful names in IT arena hail from the region, only few have returned to feel the giant strides achieved by the region in areas infrastructure and connectivity. “Our aim is to bring in all the IT brands into the region”, he added.
