Showers in Bengaluru outskirts

The BBMP officials said three trees in Vidyaranyapura, one in Jalahalli cross and two in Doddakammanahalli got uprooted.

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru International Airport and its surrounding areas on Friday witnessed its first April showers and six trees were uprooted due to strong winds. The outskirts of the city, in and around Bengaluru International Airport saw heavy downpour on the 'World Earth Day'. “There was rainfall followed by thunder activity in and around international airport limits. While the city still has a cloudy weather and rains are expected,” said an official from the Met Department. Meanwhile, the garden city Bengaluru which had touched a sweltering 37.8 degree Celsius, a record in the past 10-years for the month of April, is yet to receive rainfall.

“The city is yet to receive its April showers. For the next two days the sky will be partly cloudy and thunder clouds are likely to develop towards evening or night,” the official said. As many as six trees were uprooted due to the strong winds in Hebbal and surrounding areas. The BBMP officials said three trees in Vidyaranyapura, one in Jalahalli cross and two in Doddakammanahalli got uprooted.
