Mangaluru: Wife, kids back, will Rasheed come home from Uganda?
Mangaluru: A retired beedi industry employee, G Mohammed Shafi of Panakaje village in Belthangady is a worried man. His son, Rasheed, has been accused by the company he has been working for in Uganda of stealing Rs 12 lakh from it and is not able to come home until he returns the money to it.
"Rasheed has been working in the Gujarat based company in Uganda for eight years. But about 10 months ago when he was on his way home from office, he was attacked and robbed of his office key, mobile and the Rs 12 lakh in cash.
But the company held my son responsible. Rasheed called me after the incident and said he could be arrested if he failed to get the money back. His fear came true as he was arrested and put behind bars for about three months," Mr Shafi told reporters here.
Although Rasheed is now out of prison, he cannot return home until he is cleared of the charges. His friends have, managed to bring Rasheed's Sudanese wife and three children back to India.
Mr Shafi has now appealed for help to bring his son back home to Zilla Panchayat member, Shaul Hamid and also External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, who in response tweeted that the family must contact the embassy.
"Our main concern was the return of my daughter- in -law and the children. We have managed to get them back, but now I want my son back too," said the father, adding that the family was trying to collect the Rs 12 lakh to help his son get out of the mess.
