Thiruvananthapuram: Online food cos yet to fall in line
Thiruvananthapuram: As part of its effort to make food delivery disposable free, the City Corporation is planning for yet another meeting with the online food delivery operators. Though the restaurant association has agreed to use eco-friendly products for packaging, the online food delivery operators are yet to give their consent. The representatives of the online operators have insisted on giving the choice to the customers.
A top official said that a meeting will be held very soon with the online food delivery operators. “In the initial meeting, the Kerala Restaurants and Hotels Association agreed to comply with the green protocol. But without the cooperation of online food delivery operators, we cannot implement this initiative. We want them to switch over to the utensil or eco-friendly packaging for food delivery. They should provide these options for the customers,” said the official.
The Kerala Hotel and Restaurants Association district secretary B Vijayakumar said that implementing green protocol would bring back customers to restaurants like good old times.
“With the launch of these apps, a large number of people have stopped coming to restaurants for having food. Everybody is ordering online and in the long run this would adversely affect hotel business in the state. So we hope with the implementation of green protocol we will get back our customers. Eco-friendly packaging is going to cost dear for the customers,” said Mr Vijayakumar.
