Suicide note of probationary sub-inspector Gopakumar blames higher officials

The suicide note has named North station house officer K.J. Peter and sub-inspector Vibindas as the main perpetrators of the harassment.

KOCHI: The suicide note left behind by probationary sub-inspector Gopakumar of the North police station in Ernakulam has blamed his superior officers for harassing him mentally. Gopakumar, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, was found hanging from the ceiling of a room at a lodge near North railway station on Sunday. The suicide note has named North station house officer K.J. Peter and sub-inspector Vibindas as the main perpetrators of the harassment and stated that "they should not be allowed even to have a look at my body."

The note addressed to his mother, wife and children, mentioned that he was forced to take the extreme step due to the unbearable pressure in his official life and the harassment. He decided to end his life as he had no other option before him, the note said. He also expressed his sorrow over not being able to see his children.

He has also written a separate note addressed to his colleagues saying that the officers mentioned in the note should not be allowed to see his body. He said that an official named Jabbar should be asked to conduct the inquest of his body. A police team led by A.R. Prem Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (administration), probing the circumstances of the suicide collected the statements his former colleagues on Monday. Gopakumar's body was taken to his native place for cremation.
