CPM seminars focus on agriculture sector
KALPETTA: CPM is organising a series of seminars with the support of various organisations on the sustainable development of Wayanad. The focus is sustainable farming, value addition of farm products, success of collective farming efforts, lack of mechanisation in farming, the plight of plantations sector and various other agriculture sectors. “The move is aimed at strengthening the dialogue of party with the farming community and also launch new initiatives among the peasantry to assist them in securing better returns from farming” said All India Kissan Sabha national treasurer P Krishnaprasad.
A seminar on mechanization of farming and large-scale farming activities was held at Meenangadi on Saturday. Agricultural experts, officials and farmers were participated in the seminar. Congress leader P.T. Gopalakurup, who is also the chairman of Milma, led another session on dairy development on Sunday. Dairy farmers across the district participated in the seminar in which many papers were presented. Another seminar on ‘Plantation sector- challenges and remedies’ will be held at Meppadi on Monday. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the seminar series on January 14. In total, 12 regional seminars would be conducted.
