Five firms vie for Kozhikode's 6-lane bypass project

The total expected cost of the project is Rs 1,425 crore at the rate of Rs 50.31 per km.

KOZHIKODE: Five companies have come forward as the technical bid for the Kozhikode bypass six-lane works started on Thursday. They are NCC Limited, Hyderabad, KMC Construction Limited, Hyderabad, ULCCS-ITD CEM joint venture, Vadakara, KNR Constructions Limited, Hyderabad and JMC Projects (India) Limited, Maharashtra. The financial bid for the six-lane works from Vengalam junction to Ramanattukara will start after one month, said Mr M.K. Raghavan MP.

The work would gain momentum once the financial bid is also over. A decision on the company would be taken after that. The surface transport ministry had recently green signal to the project for converting the city bypass into six-lane which is the first six -lane project of NH authority in the state. The total expected cost of the project is Rs 1,425 crore at the rate of Rs 50.31 per km. The 28.4-km proposed plan is part of the Kanyakumari-Panavel NH-66.

This is one of the most expensive national highways to be constructed. Seven flyovers have been sanctioned on the highway passing through Vengalam, Pooladikkunnu, Thondayad, Cyberpark-Palazhi, Pantheerankavu, Azhinjilam, and Ramanattukara. Overpasses have been allotted in Malaparamba and Vengeri. Four underpasses will be constructed in Ambalappadi, Mokavoor, Koodathumbara and Vayalkkara for the cross roads to pass through.
